EXSPECTATA'13

It was 19th of August, 2013 and the very much anticipated Freshers’ Day for the new batch of engineering in the Royal Group of Institutions was scheduled on that day. Casting quite an irony to my expectations, Exspectata’13 (the name of the event) surprised me. And as earlier I had planned to skip the event, I just want to thank myself for not having done so. After all, it was a day of fun and entertainment, and students would be seen in every available and possible dress but not in the college uniform. Without caring what the boys wore, the girls were clad in beautiful saris
. And you know what, girls look prettier and more beautiful in a sari than in any other dress. Hence, the saying that Indian women are very beautiful. Indeed they are. And I respect them for that.  Keeping aside the Indian women and the sari discussions, let me come back to my topic of discussion, the eventful event, the Freshers’ day. (You can easily take note of my problem of wandering off the topic very easily.)

As was expected, the program which was scheduled at 11, kick started off at around 11:45 in D’Royal Auditorio. (D’Royal Auditorio is one of the finest auditoriums I have ever seen, for college standards. And I really have to thank The Royal Group of Institutions for providing us with such a magnificent auditorium.)  It is very much normal for an event to start off late than the scheduled time. Every high- profile event does .And, so going by that tradition, our event maintained its dignity. The juniors started pouring in like VIPs, dressed in traditional attire. They were acting as if they had just returned from a successful Moon Mission or after scaling the entire height of Mt. Everest .All of them were dressed beautifully and traditionally, from top to bottom. I felt like I was attending a marriage party, minus the bride and the groom, and obviously the tasty food. The girls looked so beautiful that every one of them resembled a Miss Universe in them. But, the sight of one of them even made my heart pump blood faster than the usual rate. I felt refrigerated. I felt as if she was the special girl (she was indeed a special girl. The only difference was that I was not the special boy). Never mind, this is very much the usual situation in my daily life. Nevertheless, the event started off with a Saraswati Bandana, followed by other songs sung by the same singer. Then, there were dance programs, other singing events (even I performed with the keyboard, along with two of my friends) and the crowd favorite Mr. and Miss Fresher event. The event mentioned at the last, caught everyone’s eyes. Mine too, obviously.  Students in fashionable dresses did a ramp-walk and then participated in various drills (including a particular slapping act in which the participant was asked to slap himself or herself. ), which were planned by the organizing committee, to enable the judges to decide on the winner. Students also had to showcase their smartness, and on-spot thinking capabilities. Some of them were unnecessarily over smart and others acted like newly-wed brides. All of them did a pretty good job and kept us entertained, and claps and chatters filled the auditorium. The anchors of the various events did a good job too. The girl anchor was cute, too. Various games were also organized. The one which caught my eyes was the one, in which the so-called chosen ‘lucky’ contestants were made to eat chips from a plate, with their hands in the back. I almost felt I was watching “Roadies” on MTV (poor sense of humor alert).  Amidst all this, the announcement for the distribution of the food was made as apparently, everybody was hungry (I was so hungry, I was reminded of the minister who had made claims that Assam has the least number of people who live without food, and also claimed that you can have a stomach-full meal at just Rs. 2.50. Height of insane claims. ) .This resulted in a chaos among the students. They behaved as if they were without food for the past one year. Even I did the same. There is a feel of pride, when similar thoughts are coincided. Every human is same. And I respect every one of them. The event was a very memorable one. I only pity those who have skipped it. They missed all the fun, the food, the sight of cute and beautiful people, the chance to showcase their designer dress and above all, a beautifully organized event. It is not every day that you have fun, in this intensity.

The committee which was responsible for the various categories in the program did a fantastic job and the event was a grand success. After all, they did work hard and the reward was a fruitful one.  Upon all these developments, I must make a special mention of the members of the committee. The lives of some of the members have changed quite drastically and beautifully. One of my friends has been really enjoying his after-the-event life. He has found a new lease of life. (Any resemblance to any other person may purely be coincidental. I do not take any responsibility for that.)Well, congratulations to him. And may the other members also reap their own benefits. My wishes to them, as well. And yes, also to the alleged party with surplus money by the core committee members. Thank Colonel Sanders.JAI HO!!
